The Latest Brotherhood Podcast Is Out!
And check out the guest host
The latest Brotherhood Podcast is out and first off, Ryan Young has a substitute host: Jay Bilas.
Bilas interviews coach Jon Scheyer and they talk about Duke’s roster building, dealing with the portal, last season and more. Bilas also does a ‘94 feet, which we typically see on ESPN rather than the Brotherhood Podcast.
Speaking of podcasts, we listened to the latest Eye On College Basketball podcast and that crew’s take on Duke’s season. Their primary concern is youth and they think that Duke, who they currently see as #9 (ranking teams in the off-season is kind of ludicrous but we all need stuff to talk about), has to rely a lot on young Cooper Flagg, and if he doesn’t excel, next up are Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster.
That’s partly true, but not entirely.
Certainly Flagg is a key and he turns 18 in December as opposed to a lot of his soon-to-be opponents who are well into their 20’s.
Duke’s freshman class is spectacular but Scheyer has been rather pointed about wanting an older team and his portal work helped to remedy that: Mason Gillis and Sion James are fifth-year players while Maliq Brown and Cameron Sheffield are juniors.
And of course Proctor is a junior and Foster is a sophomore. So yes there are a lot of (very talented) freshmen but there is also a solid core of guys who know the ropes. That’s going to help a lot.
Speaking of the Brotherhood, check out this little clip of what Dereck Lively does with his spare time. Amazing.
One last note - we assumed that Sion was pronounced like Zion but actually it’s pronounced See-on.
