Zoustar Colt Sells for $400,000 at MM National

The Magic Millions National Yearling Sale kicked off on Tuesday with three of the top four lots in the opening session sired by Zoustar.

Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis was back at the Gold Coast after selling their star mare Imperatriz for $6.6million last week and he was quick to reinvest paying $400,000 for the Baramul Stud consigned colt from Group II winning Shamardal (USA) mare No Evidence Needed.

The colt is a half-brother to six winners including Te Akau Racing’s star juvenile colt Move to Strike, winner of this year’s Group I Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes.

“He’s a cracking colt,” a delighted Ellis said. “He’s got a lot of quality.

“He’s a half brother to an I Am Invincible colt that we’ve just won a Group One with and expect to reach the top in New Zealand and Australia next season.

“A stunning colt and it’s great to buy one off Gerry Harvey. We’ve had so much success buying off mares that he’s got and I’m sure this will be another really good colt.”

Another Baramul Stud consigned youngster by Zoustar was the second top seller of the day – this time a filly – with the Fit and Ready yearling selling to The Two Old Men Syndicate for $350,000.

The filly is a half-sister to three stakes horses including Group II ATC Festival Stakes winner Outrageous and Group III WA Oaks winner Very Tempting from the family of Golden Slipper winning sire Catbird.

The third Zoustar at the top of proceedings was a $200,000 colt from Ladybeetle that was offered by Riverstone Lodge and bought by Australian Bloodstock. He is the first foal of a full sister to Group I winning $2.5million earner Dreamforce.
