Report: Blow for Spurs as striker target is in favour of a move to Chelsea instead
Football Insider have said that Tottenham target Ivan Toney is interested in joining Chelsea this summer after the Blues expressed an interest in the striker.
The report backs up what we have heard extensively over the last few months by stating that Toney, who has a year left to run on his deal, is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer.
However, it is alleged that Chelsea could now leapfrog the London rivals in the queue to land the England international.
It is explained that the Blues are prioritising a move for a number nine this summer after Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku endured turbulent seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Ivan Toney prefers Chelsea over Tottenham
While Victor Osimhen was their preferred candidate, Chelsea expect to be priced out of a move for the Napoli star and are now thus set to turn their attention to Toney, who has emerged as their ‘top’ target.
The publication adds that the Bees are demanding £50m to part ways with their star man and the West London side see the player as an ‘attainable signing’ at that price range.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given Tottenham’s financial situation in comparison to Chelsea’s, the Lilywhites should not have any issues outbidding their London rivals for Toney. However, for some reason, it does not appear as if the Brentford star is at the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist ahead of the summer window.
