Report: Spurs have competition as PL rivals enter into talks over Conor Gallagher deal
The Athletic report that Aston Villa have held preliminary talks with Chelsea over a potential summer deal for Conor Gallagher, a player who has been consistently linked with Spurs over the past six months.
Villa are fresh off the back of qualifying for the Champions League after they pipped Tottenham to the last top-four spot and the Midlands clubs are said to have a good relationship with Chelsea.
Not only have Aston Villa opened early talks with the Blues about signing Gallagher, who has 12 months left on his contract, but they have also reached out to the player’s representatives.
Unai Emery’s side are said to be looking to enhance their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign next season and Gallagher has emerged as a top target.
Tottenham have competition in Conor Gallagher race
The Gallagher to Tottenham rumours have been running for well over six months now and some reports have even indicated that he was highlighted as a top target as soon as Ange Postecoglou came through the door (Fabrizio Romano – GiveMeSport).
There are also rumours that Chelsea are under pressure to sell in order to comply with the current Profit and Sustainability Rules (The Times).
The Independent warned Spurs last week that they would not find it easy to sign Gallagher this summer, especially with Villa emerging as a contender for his signature, and it appears the Villans have made their move early.
Spurs Web Opinion:
It makes sense that Tottenham will have competition for Gallagher this summer. I just get the feeling that Chelsea will push hard to sell him to any other club but Spurs, and that makes perfect sense. Not to mention the fact that Villa have Champions League.
