Halle Bailey Highlights a Rarely Discussed Side Effect of Breastfeeding & Fans Praise Her for Keeping It Real
Everyone knows breastfeeding comes with tons of perks — but people don’t talk about the downsides quite as much. That’s why Halle Bailey’s candid post feels so refreshingly real. The Little Mermaid star and mom of baby Halo, born in 2023, shared an update about breastfeeding her baby, and fans love her honesty!
“Question for all my girls ..” the 24-year-old, who shares Halo with boyfriend DDG, wrote on Instagram recently. “Which one of ur boobs is way bigger than the other? mine is my right one ????????✨????”
She also shared several pictures of her in a strapless black dress, where you can see her right breast is bigger than her left one. It’s a problem so many women can relate to!
One mom commented, “Nursing! my boy preferred my right boob and now I’m lopsided. ???? worth it for these little ones though!” Bailey replied, “me too!!”
“Those are breast feeding boobiessss???????????? I should know. Mine were uneven for two yrs,” another said. Someone else commented, “My left has always been bigger but breastfeeding really made them sisters instead of twins ????.” Bailey responded, saying, “my baby only liked feeding on my left boob.”
According to the La Leche League, it’s extremely common to have asymmetrical breasts, and pregnancy and lactating can affect their size even more. But while this is normal, asymmetrical breasts can be a risk factor for breast cancer. As someone whose had asymmetrical breasts while breastfeeding and was later diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, I highly recommend anyone getting checked out by their doctor if they notice a significant change in their breast size. It’s better to be safe than sorry, as they say!
In a video on Snapchat in April, The Color Purple star said that she feels “like a completely different person” since giving birth to Halo. “When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I’m in a whole new body, like I don’t know who I am,” she continued.
Bailey described her postpartum depression as feeling like swimming in an ocean with “the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown and you’re trying to come up for air.” She explained, “You have those moments where you come up for air and they feel like the most beautiful things and it’s great. Then you have those moments where you’re drowning again.”
Pregnancy and childbirth certainly comes with many physical and emotional challenges, and we love that Bailey is using her platform to draw attention to these very real — and relatable — issues.
