Hazmat investigates 'suspicious package' in southwest Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Hazardous Materials Response team is in southwest Topeka responding to a call involving a "suspicious substance".

Just before 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) responded to a medical call at the 3200 block of Southwest Eveningside Drive, according to a news release from TFD. Someone reported receiving a piece of mail containing a "suspicious substance". The person who received the mail reported possibly experiencing medical symptoms.

American Medical Response provided medical care to the individual. At this time, there are no reported injuries.

An investigation is ongoing, according to the news release. More information will be added as it becomes available.
