Passengers thrown from runaway tram before it crashes into another at high speed
This is the disturbing moment commuters were thrown out from a tram with ‘failed breaks’ in Russia.
Footage shows the vehicle taking a corner at a high speed, with the doors coming off.
Two passengers are seen being hurled out some 50ft onto a highway, and rolling multiple times from the force.
Drivers around them pump the breaks immediately to avoid smashing into them. In the video, they are seen lying motionless on the road.
The nightmare happened in the industrial city of Kemerovo, in Siberia, earlier this morning.
The vehicle eventually crashed into another tram, leaving as many as 100 peopleinjured and at least one person killed.
At least three passengers are in a ‘very serious condition’ and are fighting for their lives in hospital.
Alexandra Marieva, 23, who has been identified as the driver, has suffered multiple fractures and a head wound and is now in hospital.
Local media reported that the tram had already crashed into a car before colliding with the tram.
‘According to preliminary data, the tram traveling on route No. 10 experienced a brake system failure, as a result of which the car picked up enormous speed,’ it was said.
’As a result, at a turn, the doors of the tram were torn off and two people flew out.’
Emergency services are currently on the scene, examining the tram and the failed breaks.
An investigation is ongoing as to what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
