Beloved Portland chocolate shop Jaciva's Bakery to close after nearly 4 decades
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A nearly 40-year-old chocolate business has announced it will close its doors by the end of the month.
Southeast Portland's Jaciva's Bakery and Chocolatier will close permanently on June 29. The owners said they lost about half their business in the last few years, due to the pandemic and increased crime.
The owner's daughter and manager, Laura Boscole, said they are going to miss the customers and community, especially when it comes to being part of people's "celebratory days."
"We were faced with a lot of support from our loyal customers and our community, which we love and always will love and appreciate," Boscole said.
The manager said that she's "sad" about the closure of the bakery, which she had formative memories running around as a little girl growing up ever since it first opened in 1986.
"I’ve had so many good times here. And so many great employees have come and gone. And customers that we have impacted their lives. And it’s just been a really cool experience for all of us here," Boscole said.
Jaciva's Bakery said that all items will be first come, first serve and that they will not be taking pre-orders at this time.
The building on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard is now up for sale.
