6 Alamo Drafthouse theaters shutter outside Austin metro, although they could come back
AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) — Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is losing six locations outside Central Texas after a franchisee filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The company that operated all five theaters in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, plus one in Woodbury, Minnesota, under a franchise agreement abruptly closed them on June 6.
“We are heartbroken for the franchisee’s teammates and the local film communities, however, we are working as quickly as possible to get Alamo Drafthouse Cinema back up and running in these cities," an Alamo Drafthouse spokesperson told the Austin Business Journal.
Alamo Drafthouse’s franchise partner — Two Is One, One is None LLC — and its affiliates attributed the closure of the locations after 13 years to reduced business that hasn't rebounded from the pandemic, as well as other economic factors.
