75th Anniversary: Channel 4 legacy stands strong as first television station in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — It was June 6, 1949, when a switch was flipped that launched a 75-year, and counting, legacy.
That one action introduced the modern marvel of television in the Sooner State.
KFOR, then WKY-TV, was born on that date and there have been many memorable moments, an eyewitness to tragedy, history, and justice. It has also helped keep the public safe for more than 7 decades.
