UN lifts travel ban on four senior Taliban officials
The UN Security Council Sanctions Committee has lifted travel restrictions on four senior officials of the Taliban officials who wish to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage.
In a recent statement, the Security Council announced that the travel ban exemption for Sirajuddin Haqqani, Minister of Interior, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Abdul Haq Wasiq, Intelligence Chief, and Noor Mohammad Saqib, Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, has been granted to attend the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement from the council, the travel ban exemption for these four Taliban officials was approved on Wednesday, June 5th.
Meanwhile, Matthew Miller, the US State Department spokesperson, reacted to the officials of the Interior Minister of Taliban travel to the United Arab Emirates by stating that host countries should consider the sanctions.
Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Interior Minister, and Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Intelligence Chief, had traveled to the United Arab Emirates a day before the travel exemption approval and met with senior officials of the country.
