EPSO: Gretna man leads deputies on high-speed chase in Evangeline Parish

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A high-speed chase on northbound I-49 in Evangeline Parish ended with an arrest, and drugs and equipment for printing counterfeit money being seized, authorities said.

Patrick Hundley, of Gretna is charged with aggravated flight, resisting an officer, reckless driving,
speeding, careless operation, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and aggravated assault with a vehicle.

Officials said there is also an active investigation into monetary instrument device abuse (counterfeit money).

Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office said they started a pursuit at approximately 2:05 p.m. Thursday at mile marker 45 on northbound I-49. The driver of the vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Ultima, fled from the deputies at 130 mph, authorities said.

After running off the road several times and nearly striking numerous vehicles, including one of the deputies' units, he exited at the La. 167 exit at over 100 mph, officials said. When he came up to the intersection, he locked up his breaks causing his vehicle to leave the road and became airborne, striking the embankment on the side of the roadway.

His vehicle came to rest, Hundley ran away on foot, and deputies were able to apprehend him after a short foot pursuit, authorities said.

Officials said Hundley was in possession of over 38 grams of marijuana, and $979 in real cash. He also had $710 in counterfeit money on his person. A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded equipment used for printing counterfeit $50 and $20 bills and more counterfeit bills. Equipment seized included a computer, printer, ink cartridges and printing paper.

Hundley's bond was set at $70,500. He also has a hold for outstanding warrants out of New Orleans, officials said.
