Updated Post – June 7 at 2:50 PM

The New York Mets announced that top prospect Jett Williams underwent a right wrist TFCC debridement procedure yesterday with Dr. Donald Sheridan in Scottsdale, AZ.

A typical return to game activity for this type of procedure is 8-10 weeks.

Williams played in only 11 games this season for Double-A Binghamton before the injury occurred.

Jett Williams, the top Mets prospect across multiple rankings, received a second cortisone shot in his sprained right wrist and surgery could be on the table if the jab doesn’t fix the problem, president of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters Tuesday.

The shortstop/centerfielder, rated first on the MMO list of Met prospects, has not played since April 21 due to wrist soreness. The 20-year-old was off to a poor start in 50 plate appearances with Double-A Binghamton, hitting .180/.360/.308/.668, after posting an .876 OPS across three minor league levels in 2023. He had 13 home runs and 45 stolen bases in 534 plate appearances.

The Mets expect to have a better idea of what the next step will be for Williams in the next week to 10 days.

“If the second injection doesn’t work, we’re going to have to look at what more we can do to help him,” Stearns said before the first game of a doubleheader with the Dodgers.

Wrist surgery would be a big blow to his rise. Williams was drafted in the first round (14th overall) of the 2022 draft out of Rockwall-Heath High School in Heath, Texas. Within 15 months of being drafted, Williams became the pretty clear top prospect in the organization.
