FanPost Friday: Lonely at the top
The Mariners are still the only team above .500 in the AL West
Hello and welcome back to FanPost Friday. After a brief, horrific dalliance with June-uary, summer weather appears to be taking hold early in the PNW (tosses bag of salt over shoulder). Feels good! You know what else feels good? These standings!
One must note that the first-place Seattle Mariners are still the only team in the AL West above .500. Winning both series versus the Angels and A’s the last week certainly helped with that, but the Astros and Rangers have continued to flounder a bit. Pretty cool!
A few weeks back, I posed a simple question:
And now I must ask it again.
Very curious to see how that one pans out.
Also, you may have missed this in the Series Preview for the Oakland series, but the Mariners have the easiest remaining strength of schedule per Tankathon. Like, out of everyone. The entirety of MLB. It already feels like a divisional title and playoff berth is theirs to lose at this point, which is a completely unfamiliar feeling to any Mariners fan born after 2000 and certainly one not many are accustomed to feeling as it’s only happened....well, three times in 46 seasons (95, 97, 01, duh). The stat that got lots of the play this past week is that this is the latest point in a season where the Mariners have been in first place since 2003. And that, my friends, is this week’s prompt:
What were you doing in 2003?
This can be totally personal but extra points if you work baseball and/or the Mariners into it. Sound off in the comments!
Have a great weekend and go Mariners!
