A 19-year-old man was arrested after officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in Waterbury and allegedly found a stolen 9mm weapon and a “ghost gun,” police said.

Crime Prevention Unit officers were patrolling Madison Street in Waterbury on Tuesday after recent weapons and narcotics complaints in the area, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

Officers allegedly observed an occupied, parked vehicle with motor vehicle violations and conducted a motor vehicle stop, police said.

According to police, the driver was identified as Willie Redd of Waterbury.

During a search of the car, officers allegedly located two loaded 9mm firearms in the vehicle, one being an “illegal, privately manufactured firearm, commonly referred to as ‘ghost’-style gun and the other a Sig Sauer,” police said.

Police later learned that the 9mm Sig Sauer firearm was reported as stolen last month in Waterbury.

Redd is currently under court-ordered conditions that prohibit him from possessing any firearms or ammunition, according to police. He was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, criminal possession of ammunition, illegal transfer of pistol/revolver, theft of a firearm, first-degree violation of conditions of release, criminal violation of civil protection order as well as several motor vehicle-related violations.

Redd was being held on a $750,000 bond pending a court arraignment on Wednesday, police said.
