… Harps On Imbibing Resilience Thinking In Statewide Service

Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) has organised a workshop for Middle Management Officers selected from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the Lagos State Public Service. The training programme was designed to educate them on the implementation of the Lagos Resilience Strategy.

Speaking at the event held recently at the State Treasury Office (STO) Resource Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Dr. Folayinka Dania, the Lagos State Chief Resilience Officer encouraged participants to take resilience thinking very seriously and embrace it in discharging their various duties in the State Public Service.

She noted that Lagos has always managed the ever-increasing population and urbanization due to rural-urban migration into Lagos State, saying “Lagos State has always undergone constant and unprecedented population growth occasioned by ever-increasing migration, rapid urbanisation and so on. The high population in Lagos State is because of quality leadership, which attracts more migrants from other parts of the country”.

She further noted that despite the resilience of Lagos State, officers in the public service need to do more, noting that the city has continued to encounter numerous socio-economic and environmental challenges due to its rapid population growth and other attending phenomena despite the inherent resilience of the average citizens of Lagos State.

“Although the established Lagos Resilience Strategy by the State Government is already yielding results, there is still a need to do more”, Dr. Dania stated.

One of the facilitators, Engr. Yaya Ogidan, while taking participants through his lecture on “Developing Resilient Mindset for Growth in Workplace”, noted that one should not expect perfect situations always because there are some life challenges that are bound to happen, however, individual’s response to them matters most.

A participant, Mr. Abiodun Olaniyi from the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board appreciated the Lagos State Resilience Office for the workshop, stating that it has broadened his resilience thinking and everything learnt will assist him and his colleagues in imbibing resilience in their various MDAs.

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Bamigboye, another participant, commended Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, for providing necessary leadership and demonstration of commitment to the implementation of the Lagos Resilience Strategy.
