Alan Titchmarsh reveals his wife has banned him from huge BBC show over health concerns
BELOVED gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh revealed that he is strictly banned from making an appearance on one particular BBC show as his wife fears he would injure himself.
The Garden Secrets presenter has been on screens for over four decades after becoming a host of the Chelsea Flower Show in 1983.
However, there is one programme that he will never set foot on after Alison declared it was off limits.
Alan admitted that he has been invited on Strictly Come Dancing a whopping six times, but turned it down given his wife’s concerns.
He told Saga magazine: “Alison was a dance tutor and she is convinced my knees wouldn’t stay the course.”
However, the broadcaster backs his wife on her stance, and added: “On top of that, it is a huge commitment; you start in September and you might be there until Christmas.
“There’s too much other stuff I need to be getting on with.”
Alan previously had surgery on his knees in 2018, so the 75-year-old has been going easy on the exercise ever since.
He needed the operation after sustaining some long term wear and tear from kneeling down to garden over many years.
At the time he told The Mirror: “I have had what is known as knee arthroscopy on both my knees and my surgeon did it to investigate the reason for my knee pain.
“While he was doing it he removed all my damaged tissue and cartilage – I had it all cleared out and they feel so much better.”
The poor nature lover then went on to break his ankle during lockdown.
While keeping himself busy by tending to the garden and doing 26,000 steps a day, Alan slipped on wet grass and his bone fractured.
He ended up in crutches for six weeks, and has confessed that he was “not a terribly good patient”.
Alan added: “I found having to rely on somebody else doing absolutely everything for me really hard.”
