Daniel Radcliffe Thanks Dad for Playing Sondheim in the Car
Broadway Boy Who Lived Daniel Radcliffe has won his first Tony for Merrily We Roll Along. As he walked up to accept his award, he gestured for the stagehands to lower the mic so that he could thank everyone audibly. “Okay, I’m going to just talk fast and try not to cry,” he started. Radcliffe thanked his Merrily director, his cast, as well as the late great Stephen Sondheim. “Jonathan, Lindsay, I will miss you so much,” he said, alluding to the show ending July 7. “I don’t really have to act in this show, I just have to look at you and feel everything I want to feel. I will never have it this good again. Thank you.” Radcliffe also thanked his dresser, Sandy Binion, who’s been with him since Equus. “You didn’t dress me [on the famously nude Equus],” Radcliffe said. “We met on Equus. You’ve dressed me on everything since.” Radcliffe thanked his wife, his child, and parents. “Happy father’s day, dad,” he said. “Thank you for playing Sondheim in the car and loving me.”
