News and Notes: Schneemann Hits First Canadian Homer
News and Notes for Monday, June 17th, 2024
The Guardians had the Nick Sandlin blow-up game and the Ben Lively struggle to get through five game on the same day and lost.
The strike zone was pretty weird the whole day so both pitchers had their quibbles with the home plate umpire. Sandlin, however, just didn’t have it, allowing all five hitters he faced to miss and giving up a grand slam to Daulton Varsho. This was Toronto’s second home run of the day, with the first coming off the bat of ex-Guardians’ player, Ernie Clement, off of Lively.
The Guardians bullpen was dominant after Sandlin, allowing the offense to crawl back in with five shutout innings. Steven Kwan was 4 for 5, pushing his average to .398. Tyler Freeman and Will Brennan both had two hits, Brayan Rocchio hit a two-run home run, and Daniel Schneemann hit his first major league home run:

Going 4-4 on the roadtrip wasn’t ideal, but the Guardians held serve. They will now have an off-day before entering a more difficult part of their schedule.
