I’m an interiors expert – here’s 3 bathroom mistakes you’ve been making for years that leave you with a cramped eyesore
THE bathroom might be one of the smallest rooms in your home, but stylingr decisions can make a big difference.
Indeed, interiors expert and founder of UK Radiators, Rob Nezard, says he’s seen more than his fair share of blunders.
The radiator in your bathroom can make all the difference to the overall look[/caption]He says: “Don’t let these bathroom faux pas ruin your relaxation space.”
Here he shares the three most common mistakes homeowners have been making for years, and how to fix them – transforming your space to create a sanctuary in your own home.
Overlooking Storage
Rob says underestimating the need for storage is one of the most common mistakes people make.
“Clutter can quickly accumulate, making the bathroom look untidy and feel cramped”, he revealed.
“If your bathroom lacks storage solutions, consider adding wall-mounted cabinets, floating shelves, or stylish baskets to keep essentials organised.
“A vanity unit with built-in storage can also provide much-needed space for toiletries and towels, helping you maintain a clean and orderly bathroom.”
Poor Lighting Choices
Lighting is often an afterthought in bathroom design but it plays a crucial role in creating a functional and inviting space, according to Rob.
He says: “Harsh, overhead lighting can be unflattering and impractical, especially for tasks like shaving or applying makeup.
“To fix this, layer your lighting with a combination of ambient, task, and accent lights.”
He also recommends installing dimmable overhead lights, adding sconces or vanity lights around the mirror, and considering under-cabinet lighting to enhance the overall ambiance and functionality of your bathroom.
Ignoring the Radiator
Rob claims the radiator is an essential element in the bathroom, but is often overlooked in terms of style and placement.
“An old, rusty radiator can detract from the overall aesthetic of the space”, he points out.
“If your radiator is an eyesore, upgrade to a sleek, modern design that complements your decor.
“Heated towel rails are a fantastic option, offering both warmth and a convenient place to hang towels.
“Ensure your radiator is appropriately sized for your bathroom to maintain a comfortable temperature, especially during the colder months.”
