Historic 'Big Boy' train engine to pass through Kansas
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A historic Union Pacific railroad engine is set to visit the Sunflower State later this year as part of a larger tour.
Union Pacific announced on Monday, June 17 that its "Big Boy" No. 4014 engine will begin its "Heartland of America Tour" on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The engine will then travel across nine other Midwestern states, including Kansas, over the course of eight weeks. The engine will stop for display in three locations:
- Sunday, Sept 8 - Rochelle, Illinois
- Sunday, Oct. 6 - Houston, Texas
- Thursday/Friday, Oct. 10-11 - Fort Worth, Texas
Summer Richie with Union Pacific told 27 News the official route details and times for whistle-stops will be shared closer to the start of the tour. The engine is currently on its "Westward Bound Tour" which runs from Sunday, June 30 to Friday, July 26 from Wyoming to California. For more information on the tours, click here.
