Newly-single Jon Richardson parties with unlikely pals at Euros screening as they cheer on England
COMEDIAN Jon Richardson is getting through the low point of his divorce with a little help from some friends in high places, including the Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer.
Decked out in an England shirt, the 41-year-old appeared in high sprits, hanging out with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner to celebrate England’s 1-0 win against Serbia at a Euros screening last night.
Indeed, the 8 out of 10 cats star looked delighted to be such esteemed company, as he beamed for the photo, despite coming through a tumultuous time of late.
In April the funnyman announced his split from his wife, the comedian Lucy Beaumont, 40, after nine years of marriage.
The couple who share a 7-year-old daughter together, released a joint statement on social media which came as one of the biggest shocks in show business.
The statement read: “”After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated.
“We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.
“As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.
“We will be making no further comment.”
Jon and Lucy are best known for their joint project Meet the Richardsons, where they portray exaggerated versions of themselves.
While the couple appeared to overshare on the show, Lucy insisted that it was a purely crafted for the purposes of entertainment.
Talking previously to The Sunday Post, she said: “It’s been great, but I see comments on social media and people don’t seem to realise it’s not real.
“I don’t henpeck we wouldn’t have lasted this long if I was as mean to him in real life.
“You don’t want to see a smug couple in love, in a nice house, with a stable career and a lovely little child.
“Who wants to see that? I wasn’t doing it if we were going to be like that.”
But back in 2022, Lucy made a comment about her marriage which could have been seen as an early sign that perhaps life was not so rosy behind closed door.
On an episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats, in which Lucy featured alongside her husband, Jimmy Carr quipped: “Lucy and Jon are married.
“So I know Lucy, everyone watching at home is dying to know… What made you decide to settle?”
Lucy joked: “I don’t see this for life.”
She then said that she and Jon “had a lovely life together” but then added: “Who knows what will happen in the future.”
Shortly before their split, Lucy also revealed the ‘downside’ to working with her husband in a chat with OK!.
She said: “It’s a great working environment because it feels like a big group of friends.
“It’s a shame that you can’t see the crew off camera because most of them have worked on the show from the beginning. It’s like a holiday for them.”
The television comedian also hinted that the current series of Meet The Richardson’s will be the last.
Lucy added: “This will probably be the last one, and we’re going out on a high.”
The funny couple first started dating in 2013 and went on to tie the knot two years later.
Indeed Jon previously revealed how the couple had been introduced by comedian Roisin Conaty, which he explained during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.
He said: “Roisin Conaty set us up and for months I said ‘if you like this girl don’t get us involved because I’ll ruin her f**king life’.”
He also later revealed why he was initially reluctant, “I was very depressed and I thought, why drag someone else down with me.”
After some persuasion, Jon agreed to date Lucy and after two years together, they married in 2015. A year later they welcomed their daughter, Elsie Louise.
