Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan Goes Past Chris Gayle To Record Fastest Hundred In T20 Cricket
New Delhi: Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan recorded the fastest T20I century in history in just 27 balls as his team chased down Cyprus’ 191/7 on Monday at the Happy Valley Ground in the second match of the six-game series. Chasing a mammoth target, Chauhan’s unbeaten 144 off just 41 deliveries saw Estonia overhaul the target in just 13 overs with six wickets in hand. With this win, Estonia took a 2-0 lead.
Chauhan thus went past Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who scored a 33-ball ton against Nepal at the start of this year. If T20s are concerned, Chauhan surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who hit a 30-ball ton during his 175 not out for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013 against now-defunct Pune Warriors India.

Playing just his fourth T20I, Chauhan hit 24 boundaries in his innings, including 18 maximums, scoring at a strike-rate of 351.21 as he toiled with the Cyprus bowling attack. His 18 sixes in an innings is also a record in itself in men’s T20Is, bettering Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai and New Zealand’s Finn Allen, who previously held the record with 16 hits each.
This was Estonia’s second successive chase of 190-plus totals. In the first game, Estonia chased down 196 with five wickets in hand. Contrastingly, Chauhan was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the game, which was played earlier on the day. The series continues with another double-header on June 18 in Episkopi.
