HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) -- The Mitchell-Lama program is an alternate affordable housing lottery offered to middle-income New Yorkers.
The program currently has one building with lotteries for studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments in Manhattan.
Clayton Apartments is a co-op located at 485 Lenox Ave. in Harlem. The income limit for a studio starts at $31,960, while for a three-bedroom, it increases to $62,000.
The building has a $75 application fee. The waiting lists for studios and one-bedroom apartments will be capped at 300 applicants each. The waitlists for two- and three-bedroom apartments will be shorter, at 150 for a two-bedroom and 100 for a three-bedroom.
You can apply online through the Mitchell-Lama Connect. The deadline to submit an application is July 10.
The Mitchell-Lama program is fairly user-friendly. First, you need to register for the NYC Mitchell-Lama Connect by clicking here. Once registered, you can view the listings here and click submit to enter the lottery of your choosing. Once you submit you can track your status through your account on the Mithcell-Lama Connect.
The program's website says that filing duplicate applications will disqualify you. The program provided these tips when applying.
DO
DON'T
DO accurately complete an entry to the best of your knowledge. Fraudulent or incomplete information may result in disqualification
DO carefully follow instructions on how to appeal a decision, if you believe you have been wrongfully found ineligible.
DO NOT send in more than one entry per project. Security algorithms are in place to detect multiple applications from a single household on any development, and for both paper and online applications.
DO NOT falsify information. You will be disqualified and possibly referred to the NYC Department of Investigation.
DO NOT contact HPD or the managing agent directly. Due to high volume of entries, managing agents are not equipped to answer individual questions. HPD does not directly market or lease up properties; we are the monitoring agencies that oversee the process.
