Storms roll throughout local counties Sunday
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. (NEWS10) -The NEWS10 Mobile Storm Tracker (MST) was on the road Sunday, tracking severe weather in three different counties with NEWS10's Anthony Krolikowski.
Driving from Albany to Loudonville, the rain was pounding down on the MST Sunday afternoon. At Guptill’s Ice Cream in Cohoes, the sun began to return, drying the ground in a matter of minutes. "It started pouring and then the parking lot turned into a massive puddle. It all seemed kind of cool," said Kara Dugan.
Customers said they were willing to brave the elements to get their ice cream. "It doesn’t really worry me. It is what it is. You do what you have to do," stated Betsye Mowry.
The next stop for the MST was Wilton to wait for the next burst of weather. The local mall had a busy parking lot and gray skies, but no rain at around 5 p.m.
The drive on NY-67 started off calm, but closer to 6 p.m., the skies darkened as rain poured. It was at that time Anthony went live from Church Street in Amsterdam to show the road conditions.
Another NEWS10 crew in Hoosick Falls captured footage around 7 p.m. that showed how heavy the storm was coming down.
In Cohoes, Janet Schoen still recalls her experience driving during the Mechanicville tornado of 1998. "As I drove through, it was all black, lot of noise, sticks, trees, everything, cars everywhere around. They pulled off and I just kept plowing along until I made it home."
