JEFF DAVIS PARISH, La. (KLFY)-- In Jeff Davis Parish, some honorable men and woman have gone above and beyond when serving our country.

At the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jennings, a ceremony honoring eight Jennings veterans recently took place.

"They've already shown their appreciation for the guys that served all of us all different services and that's what it was about just recognizing the little town of Jennings, 10,000 people, and they had 100 something people who served in Vietnam," Wayne Miller, Silver Star Recipient Veteran, said.

The ceremony opened with a presentation of the colors while aviation sounds played over speakers. Eyes were wet as 13-year-old Daxton Broussard opened by singing the national anthem.

"I'm very honored to be a part of it because I think we take for granted the sacrifices of our veterans sometimes and we really don't know what they went though so it's proper to honor them because they were willing to give out lives for us," Broussard said.

11 Jennings veterans were highlighted.

"We honored eight, and we added the only female soldier and then the two killed in action, but the other eight have either had a book written or they are considering writing one," Cathy Mayfield, researcher, said.

Displays of books written about these veterans were set up throughout the hall

"One of the honorees, the most decorated solider in fact was my best friend in high school and I got involved in writing some of that story having some input in the book about him. And from there on I got recruited and I had a background writing and everything so I was glad to join in," Dave Precht, renowned author, said.

The goal of this event is to keep the memory of these veterans and their sacrifices alive, to never forget.
