Introducing Ostuni a Mare: A historic Puglian hotel reborn
Now under the management of Egnazia Ospitalità Italiana, Ostuni Rosa Marina has re-opened for Summer 2024 as Ostuni a Mare following an extensive refurbishment.
Just a short stroll from the seafront of Ostuni in Puglia, Italy – where Salento meets the Itria Valley – lies Ostuni a Mare. A contemporary gated resort surrounded by Mediterranean shrubland with only the soft sound of birdsong breaking the silence, it is hard to believe there are 222 rooms at Ostuni a Mare. As part of the hotel’s refurbishment, Ostuni a Mare now offers ten brand new Prestige Junior Suites and ten refurbished Suites alongside its three other room categories – Comfort, Deluxe, and Junior Suite – as well renovations throughout all public areas of the hotel.
The New Suites
The perfect choice for families, the Prestige Junior Suites are located on the ground and first floors, and are complete with either a furnished terrace or veranda – perfect for parents who do not wish to go to bed quite as early as their little ones. The suites feature a main en-suite bedroom with separate lounge area, which can act as an additional bedroom for a baby or child. The suites feature whitewashed walls typical of Ostuni, stone flooring layered with textured rugs to add warmth, and luxuriant soft furnishings made using typical local materials to encapsulate the local spirit and traditions.
The ten suites are just as beautiful, with the added bonus of two bathrooms – one with a shower, and one with a bath. A vibrant Mediterranean spirit fills the suites where light hues and materials bring out the best in the warm, modern furnishings. The suites feature the same main en-suite bedroom with separate lounge area, but have an additional bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, and impressive sized outdoor space.
The Resort
Ostuni a Mare has three swimming pools, three restaurants, a bar, a kids club, two tennis courts, two padel courts, one basketball court, two synthetic five-a-side football pitches (one of which is for children), a ping-pong table, a bike rental service, and best of all, a private sandy beach complete with sun loungers, kayaks, standup paddleboards and more. The beach is accessible by a charming antique train which choo-choo’s back and forth between the resort and the beach all day long throughout the summer months. Alternatively, guests can take a five-minute stroll along a beautiful 300m trail from the hotel to the beach.
The beaches of Rosa Marina – the esteemed gated complex in which Ostuni a Mare is located – are renowned for their fine golden sand washed by the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.
Wining and Dining
Looking out over the beach, Il Pontile is the hotel’s oceanfront restaurant. It has a cosy, intimate atmosphere and is the perfect choice for lovers of freshly caught seafood. Dining whilst listening to the soothing sound of the waves is a must at Ostuni a Mare.
For guests seeking something a little more informal, Il Pergolato offers gourmet pizzas and traditional Puglian dishes. Il Pergolato is an opportunity to experience Puglia through its culinary delights, accompanied by meticulously selected wines from the finest Italian producers.
Finally, the hotel’s buffet restaurant has something for everyone – making it the go-to restaurant for parents with picky children. From antipasti to lemon sorbet and everything in between, the buffet at Ostuni a Mare is carefully curated to satisfy all culinary desires at both lunch and dinner.
What to do nearby?
Ostuni a Mare is a 15-minute drive from Ostuni, which is an Apulian region known for its whitewashed old town. Visitors love to wander the streets, admiring each and every corner – painted blue doors against white walls abundant with climbing bougainvillea, vespas scooting past tooting their horns, and locals going about their typical and authentic daily Italian life. The Corso Vittorio Emmanuel II viewpoint is considered the best viewpoint in all of Ostuni, and can be reached from the main square on foot in just fifteen minutes. A must-do when in the old town of Ostuni is to walk its city walls. Dating back to ancient times, the walls encircle the old town, and offer a unique perspective of the city’s architecture and landscape whilst also promising panoramic views of the white city and surrounding countryside.
Just a fifteen-minute drive from Ostuni a Mare, golf enthusiasts will find San Domenico Golf Club – an 18-hole golf course where the Puglian countryside meets the azure of the Adriatic Sea. The prestigious links course designed by the European Golf Design in London winds through gentle slopes, zigzagging among century-old olive trees and glimpses of the ancient city of Egnathia. It is not surprising that San Domenico Golf Club is considered one of the best golf clubs in all of Italy.
Guests of Ostuni a Mare can enjoy tailormade experiences curated by the hotel’s sister company, Indigenus Experiences. Whether it be a day of exploring Puglia in a 1970s vintage Italian car, or wine tasting in a cave that is only accessible by boat; Indigenus Experiences are renowned for crafting experiences guests will remember for a lifetime.
