Supercell Storm Observed over Augusta, Sicily

The photo above shows a supercell thunderstorm, with mammatus clouds, forming as observed near Augusta, Sicily during the morning of March 22, 2024. Cloud rotation was later detected in this storm but fortunately no funnel cloud was sighted, nor damage reported. Tornado spawning supercell thunderstorms, though infrequent, do occur in Sicily, but typically only during the warmer months of the year.
