‘OMG such a good idea!’ people praise mum’s genius hack to fix curling collars on school summer dresses in seconds
A MUM has been praised after sharing a genius hack to straighten out curling collars on school summer dresses WITHOUT having to get the iron out.
There are few things more annoying than getting your daughter prepped for school, putting on her uniform and then realising the collar of her gingham dress needs an iron.
But instead of racing to get the iron out, mum Nancy explained she just plugs in her straighteners instead.
In a video on her TikTok page, Nancy showed herself using a pair of straighteners on her daughter’s collar.
After getting them in position, she slowly started smoothing out the collar.
Once she’d straightened one side, she moved onto the other – with the whole process taking a matter of seconds.
“Honestly one of the best uses of the straighteners,” she wrote over the top of the video.
“Save so much time and works so well!”
And she added in the caption: “You’re welcome! The best mum hack for those little collars!”
People almost immediately flooded the comments section with praise for Nancy, with one writing: “Omg such a good idea!”
“I had collars on polos and dresses – no matter how much I iron them they never stay down.”
“That’s what I do. Her dresses always look perfect but those curly collars are the bane of my life,” another admitted.
“Such a good idea, I never iron anymore,” a third commented.
“Maybe people don’t iron these days, but for a quick fix I never thought of that one!” someone else said.
“Damn great job lady!”
“What an amazing idea, thank you!” another added.
“What a great idea – even for adults,” someone else wrote.
“I’ve often put something on and it’s creased in a difficult to get to area.”
My view as a mum of two, by Sarah Bull
I HATE ironing.
So much so that I would actually rather clean the toilet than iron my kids’ uniform.
In fact, I’ve even tried – over the years – to buy uniform for my 10-year-old son and six-year-old daughter that doesn’t need ironing.
And while we can usually get away with it, as the majority of wrinkles fall out when the clothes are being dried, the curling collars on my little girl’s summer dresses are a total nightmare.
So I think I’ll definitely be trying out Nancy’s hack.
Getting the ironing board out, setting up the iron and waiting for it to heat up is a total faff, so being able to switch the straighteners on and get it done in seconds is massively appealing.
Another called it “genius”, while someone else suggested using the straighteners to also apply the iron-on name tags to kids’ school clothes.
“I’ve been doing this with all my kids – also on the sleeves,” another wrote, to which Nancy replied that it had been a massive “time saver” for her.
Others were less impressed, and criticised the mum for not getting the iron out instead.
“I mean, you could just iron properly!!” one sighed.
“Does anyone iron these days?” another asked.
To which Nancy replied: “Not me!”
“I use a iron for my son’s uniform,” a third boasted.
And someone else shared a warning about the hack.
Please be so careful!” they wrote.
“I did this with my work collar and my hand slipped and I ended up going to hospital with the burn it caused on my lower neck.
“It’s a really delicate area of skin.”
