Report: Spurs move to pole position to land right-back after Liverpool hesitate
Tottenham Hotspur’s attempts to bring in a new full-back this summer may have been made a lot easier by Liverpool’s change of heart.
Liverpool make Lutsharel Geertruida transfer decision
According to The Daily Mirror, Tottenham are now the favourites to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida this summer after Liverpool cooled their interest in the player.
The report backs up what we have heard from various sources over the last few weeks, stating that both Spurs and Liverpool had shown keen interest in bringing Geertruida to the Premier League.
Apart from the two English clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig are also said to be monitoring the situation of the defender, who is currently at the Euros with the Netherlands squad.
However, it is explained that while Arne Slot is a fan of Geertruida, he is now hesitant to make the Dutchman his first signing at Anfield.
This is because Slot has seen the criticism levelled at Erik Ten Hag for signing players from the Eredivisie and does not want to repeat the same mistake.
Tottenham have scouted Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of potential move
The Mirror claims that Tottenham’s scouts watched the versatile Geertruida closely last season and were left impressed by the 23-year-old.
The publication adds that the Netherlands international is a fan of the Premier League and frequently flies over to London to see some of his friends play in big games.

Geertruida ticks several boxes for Tottenham as not only can he cover for Pedro Porro at right-back but he can also fill in as the fourth-choice centre-back that Postecoglou wants in his squad.
However, I am always sceptical about signings from the Eredivisie as the standard of Dutch football has fallen drastically over the last decade or so.
We have seen both Vincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn both struggle to adapt to the Premier League while even the likes of Cody Gakpo at Liverpool has hardly pulled up any trees with his displays.
