Good morning, Mets fans!

Kodai Senga threw a 22-pitch live batting practice session in Port St. Lucie on Sunday, marking the first time he’s faced hitters since May. Senga is expected to fly to New York next and will hopefully throw another batting practice session before the end of the week.

Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Mark Vientos all went deep, and Luis Severino struck out 10 over six shutout innings as the Mets defeated the Cubs 5-2 to earn a series victory. However, the game didn’t go without any drama, as Edwin Díaz was ejected before throwing pitching for having a foreign substance on his hand. Díaz said after the game that he just had a mixture of rosin and sweat on his hands, but crew chief Vic Carapazza said that the substance was “very sticky.” Díaz is the third Mets pitcher in the last year to be ejected from a game for having something on his hands. He now faces a 10-game suspension.

The Mets have a day off today before welcoming the Yankees to Citi Field for the first round of the Subway Series on Tuesday. David Peterson (3-0, 3.97 ERA) will look to win his fourth straight start, facing off against Gerrit Cole (0-0, 4.50 ERA), who’s making just his second start of the year.

Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that there’s a good chance Christian Scott rejoins the major league roster soon. After an off day on Thursday, the Mets play 17 straight days to close the first half.

The Mets have promoted infield prospect Jesus Baez to High-A Brooklyn. In 64 games in St. Lucie, Baez is batting .262/.338/.444 with 10 homers, 14 doubles, and eight steals in 284 plate appearances.

Latest MLB News

The Yankees have made a couple of roster moves, most notably placing Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a left hamstring strain and recalling infielder Oswald Peraza from Triple-A. Additionally, the Yankees have acquired former Met J.D. Davis from Oakland in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have transferred righty Nick Burdi to the 60-day IL.

The Phillies have placed right-hander Taijuan Walker on the 15-day IL with right index finger inflammation and recalled righty Michael Mercado. This is Walker’s second trip to the IL this season.

The Marlins placed lefty Braxton Garrett on the IL with a forearm flexor strain. With Garrett going down for the second time this year, Miami now has six starting pitchers on the IL.

Blue Jays prospect Orelvis Martinez was suspended for 80 games for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Martinez was MLB Pipeline’s 68th-ranked prospect and made his major league debut this past Friday. The 22-year-old put out a statement that he had been prescribed a fertility drug at a clinic in the Dominican Republic that contained a banned substance.

The Orioles are expected to recall outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk following a sweep at the hands of the Astros. Kjerstad went 2-for-14 in his brief stint in the majors this year but he owns a strong .301/.390/.601 batting line with 16 homers and 58 RBIs in 255 plate appearances for Norfolk.
