AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Construction begins in early July on corridor work along South Lamar Boulevard, the City of Austin's Capital Delivery Services announced late last week.
The South Lamar Corridor Reconductoring Project will be tackled in three phases:
- Phase 1: West Oltorf Street to West Mary Street
- Phase 2: West Mary Street to Treadwell Street
- Phase 3: Treadwell Street to Barton Springs Road
Phase 1 work begins July 7 and will focus on the left and right lanes, per a traffic advisory notice. The middle lane will remain open for both northbound and southbound traffic, the notice added.
Each construction phase is anticipated to take one to two months to complete, with construction scheduled on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The work is being done in collaboration with Austin Energy and is centered on "upgrading electrical distribution wires and replacing utility poles along South Lamar," per project documents. The improvements are poised to bring extra energy capacity to the corridor, once finished.
As a result of the construction work, CapMetro bus stops on South Lamar Boulevard from West Oltorf Street to Barton Springs Road "may be temporarily closed or relocated," the notice confirmed. Likewise, bike lanes, pedestrian walkways, ADA access and access into some businesses' driveways will be impacted or limited by construction.
More details on the project are available online.
