Alex Bannon moves to Burton Albion

Alex has been with the Spiders since he was aged just nine and he racked up 59 appearances after making his debut against Dundee in July 2022. The 20-year-old became a Modern Apprentice at the club in 2021 and enjoyed a loan spell at Edinburgh University before signing a two-year professional contract in 2022.

After starting his career as a midfielder Alex showed that he could also play in defence, and he was a stand-out there at the end of season 2023/ 24 just shortly after agreeing to extend his contract until 2026.

The arrangement between ourselves and Burton Albion for Alex, who scored a fine header down at Ayr United last autumn, is for an undisclosed transfer fee and with the paperwork for the deal now completed he leaves Queen’s Park with everyone’s best wishes.

Head Coach Callum Davidson said: “I believe by the end of last season Alex had learned a great deal from playing competitive football and he showed a maturity in dealing with situations way above his young age of 20. He is a still young player, and we would have liked to have developed him more here, but due to some terrific performances it was not a surprise that an English club came knocking.

“We are a club that wants to develop young players, play them in our First Team and then possibly move them on to greater things. Alex is an example of this, and he now has a fantastic opportunity to build a career for himself in England. We will be watching with great interest.”

Darren O’Donnell, Director of Football at Queen’s Park added: “Burton Albion noted their interest in Alex a couple of weeks ago and after positive negotiations we gave permission for the parties to speak.

“Alex wanted to take the opportunity to play south of the border and Burton Albion have been great to work with in terms of his transfer which has now happened.

“Queen’s Park are a club that wants to give their Academy Players the opportunity to play first team football and be developed in that environment. Alex is a great example of that philosophy working and I am sure he will be a success at Burton.”
