Canalside to host 1800s-era tall ship in early July
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Canalside will host tall ship Lettie G. Howard on July 6-7, giving visitors the chance to board the historic vessel and take free tours throughout each day.
The wooden ship launched in 1893 is the "sole surviving example of a Georges Bank fishing schooner with a homeport of New York City," according to a news release. The vessel was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
Those interested in checking out the ship can do so through public tours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 6 and from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 7. Additionally, private sails will be available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 6, as well as from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 7.
“We’re pleased to bring back a Tall Ship to Canalside and offer free tours to the public, alongside free cultural and fitness activities,” Lauren Ford, general manager of the Buffalo Waterfront, said in a release. “The tall ships are always a big draw and we’re looking forward to an exciting holiday weekend at the waterfront.”
