Rohit Sharma shows no mercy to Australian bowlers in magnificent knock

St Lucia: The Indian captain went all out on the Australian bowlers during India’s clash against Australia at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Aussies wouldn’t have had any idea that they were about to be taken to the cleaners.

After losing Virat Kohli in the second over, it looked as if the experienced Australian bowlers would dominate throughout the Indian innings, however Rohit Sharma had other plans. The Indian captain smashed Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc around the park in an over which went for a massive 29 runs.

Then, rain interrupted the play for some time, but when the covers were taken off, Rohit continued smashing the bowlers. He reached his half-century in the fifth over and only took 19 balls to do so. He registered the third-fastest fifty by an Indian batsman in T20 World Cup history, behind Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 edition and KL Rahul’s 18-ball fifty against Scotland in the 2021 edition.

Rohit didn’t stop after completing his fifty and continued hammering the likes of Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins and Marcus Stoinis. It looked as if he will become only the second Indian batsman to score a century in T20 World Cup history after Suresh Raina, however Starc managed to take his revenge in the twelfth over by dismissing the Indian captain on 92 off 41 balls. This exquisite knock included 7 boundaries and 8 sixes.

Rohit wasn’t in the best of form coming into this match, however with this knock, he once again proved why he is such an important player for the Indian team.
