Mississippi leaders to discuss Brunett murder, kidnapping case

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Mississippi Department of Public Safety will hold a news conference on Monday, June 24 to discuss the latest updates in the deaths of Callie and Erin Brunett.

Commissioner Sean Tindell will discuss Mississippi's role in the case.

He will be joined by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Attorney General's Office, Jackson Police Department, Hinds County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney's Office and U.S. Marshal.

Callie was found dead inside her Loranger home on June 13 after being reported missing 24 hours earlier.

The man accused of killing her, 36-year-old Daniel Callihan, was also accused of abducting Callie's two daughters, 6-year-old Jalie and 4-year-old Erin, and taking them to Jackson, Mississippi.

An Amber Alert was issued, and law agencies began to search for the girls. Jalie was found alive, but Erin's body was found in a wooded area.

The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office listed Callie's cause of death as “multiple sharp force injuries” and Erin's cause of death as asphyxiation due to suffocation.

Callihan and alleged accomplice 32-year-old Victoria Cox were arrested and booked into the Rankin County Jail before being extradited to Louisiana.

The conference is set for 3 p.m. See it livestreamed here.
