Calcasieu Parish accidently releases inmate
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) – The Calcasieu Parish Department of Corrections accidently released an inmate.
According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, The Department of Corrections inmate Xavier L. Johnwell, 31 of Lake Charles, was inadvertently released from custody on June 12.
Johnwell was serving time in East Carroll Parish when he had returned to the Calcasieu Correctional Center for a court appearance. He was then released, in error, by CPSO Correctional deputies. Following his release, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office immediately began an investigation and has been actively pursuing several leads in an effort to locate Johnwell.
CPSO is asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to call 491-3605. Johnwell was serving time for charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal carrying of weapons.
