New on DVD: ‘Housekeeping for Beginners’ captures bittersweet beauty of life
A riveting domestic drama tops the DVD releases for the week of July 2.
“Housekeeping for Beginners”: A queer found family does their best to stay together in filmmaker Goran Stolevski’s latest feature, which was North Macedonia’s 2024 Oscar entry for best international film.
“There’s a deeply humanist core to Stolevski’s work, which varies in genre and tone, but always captures the bittersweet beauty of life,” writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her review. “There’s no preciousness or over-explication about the sociopolitical and economic issues that shape their reality and make up the fabric of their lives.”
