Air Quality Alert issued for NYC, Long Island
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York health officials have issued an Air Quality Alert for Wednesday for high levels of ground-level ozone.
The alert warns that the Air Quality Index could exceed over 100.
The advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. for New York City, Rockland and Westchester counties, and Long Island, which includes Suffolk and Nassau counties.
High levels of ozone can produce hazy skies and reduce visibility in high concentrations, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Individuals with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, young children, and those either exercising or working outdoors should consider limiting strenuous outdoor activities, officials said.
