Gov. Laura Kelly set to attend meeting with President Biden
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Governor Laura Kelly plans to attend a meeting with President Joe Biden and other Democratic governors Wednesday.
Biden announced he has invited many Democratic governors from across the United States, including Kelly, to attend a meeting Wednesday. The meeting's guestlist will also include some Democratic congressional leaders. Kelly's press secretary Grace Hoge told 27 News Kelly will be attending this meeting virtually.
According to the Associated Press, this meeting is "the strongest indication yet" that Biden is working to calm the nerves of Democrats who may believe he is not fit to continue the campaign.
Tuesday, July 2, Kelly reaffirmed her support for Biden with the following statement.
"While I have never been shy about standing up to Washington when it’s wrong for Kansas, the President’s record of delivering bipartisan results speaks for itself. His efforts will continue to allow Kansas to recruit new manufacturing businesses, rebuild our infrastructure, and stand up for our fundamental freedoms. He is a decent man of strong character. I will support him in November."
Kelly said in her statement issued to Nexstar's Kansas Capitol Bureau
The Kansas Democratic Party is still backing Biden, alongside Kelly. Even after a shaky performance at the first presidential debate, Jeanna Repass, Kansas Democratic Party Chair firmly told 27 News that Biden is the right person to be on the Democratic side of the ballot this November.
