Is It Time to Take the Coconut Pill?
Following President Joe Biden’s disastrous showing at the presidential debate last week, there has been a pervasive feeling that we may be barreling toward America’s series finale in November. The national vibe in the days since has been more or less a nervous humming of “Holding Out for a Hero,” and over the past 24 hours, the various corners of the internet, in all their chaotic glory, have come together to ask, “What if that hero is Vice-President Kamala Harris?”
The shitposting has come fast and furious with the K-Hive working overtime on fan edits and erstwhile Harris skeptics talking about coconut trees and context.

Videos of Harris at her most auntie are spreading far and wide. She can walk you through how to season a turkey. She is a Cowboy Carter stan. Drew Barrymore wants her to be the “Momala” of the country. What if we just say “Fuck it” and call her Mother?

It’s not all jokes, however. A CNN poll released on Tuesday found Harris “within striking distance” of defeating Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup, performing several points ahead of Biden. She’s leading the political-betting markets. Some Democrats are even signaling they’re ready to stump for her if the president pulls out of the race. South Carolina representative Jim Clyburn, who endorsed Biden in 2020 and helped him clinch the nomination, said he would support Harris’s bid in that scenario. Pennsylvania representative Summer Lee also called Harris the party’s “obvious choice” if Biden chooses not to continue running.
Through the chaos, the vice-president has vowed to stick with her boss. In a joint campaign call on Wednesday, Harris said, “We will not back down. We will follow our president’s lead. We will fight, and we will win.” But it might be time for the rest of us to take the coconut pill. As the Drudge Report declared on Wednesday, “IT’S HER PARTY NOW.”
