Police swoop on vote count over allegations of ‘personation’

Police have raided a General Election count in Scotland over fraud concerns.

Election officials have raised concerns four ballot papers were personated in Glasgow West, and two others in the Glasgow South-West constituency.

Ballot papers accused of being personated mean the voter is suspected of assuming the identity of someone else with the intent to deceive.

Officers were pictured at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, where they reportedly seized three papers.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.

Those found guilty of electoral fraud face a jail sentence.

As the number of suspected fraudulent votes is so small, it is not expected to cause a serious impact on the election.

The Labour Party is set to form a government for the first time in 14 years after storming to victory in the 2024 General Election, according to an exit poll.

Labour are on course to win 410 seats, the Tories just 131 seats, and the Lib Dems 61 seats.

Reform UK are expected to do better than predicted with 13 seats and the Green Party are expected to win two seats.

The exit poll is considered the clearest indication yet of the country’s decision, and implies a Labour government is now locked in.

Commissioned jointly by major British news broadcasters, it is based on research carried out by interviewers at 133 polling stations in marginal constituencies around the country.
