GENERAL HOSPITAL, EPE ORGANISES MEDICAL CHECKUP FOR STAFF MEMBERS
The management team of Epe General Hospital, led by the Medical Director/CEO of Dr. Oluseyi Adesola has organised a weeklong medical check-up for all staff towards ensuring the welfare and well-being of its workforce.
According to him, the initiative was designed to ensure that all staff members are fit to carry out their assigned duties without neglecting their health. It was also geared towards helping them identify their health challenges, proffer solutions to them by reducing and redistributing schedules.
Furthermore, Dr. Adesola averred that the checkup would prevent the onset of illness and untimely death among the workforce, saying “The checkup is strategic for all staff and must be taken seriously. I assure you that the outcome of the checkup in regards to individual staff will be kept from unauthorised personnel. Also, the checkup will help us to improve on relevant areas of staff welfare and many more”.
Dr. Adegbola Sodunke from the Department of Anesthesia said the initiative is a laudable project which is long overdue. “It is the responsibility of the Facility to adequately protect and ensure the welfare of staff, especially from preventable diseases. Health workers must also ensure to care for themselves while attending to sick patients”, he added.
He described the initiative as one of its kind in the history of General Hospital Epe, stressing that the outcome of the medical check-up will translate to more commitment to work from staff members and increased productivity. Sodunke, however, advised that the management must ensure that, henceforth, the programme is done periodically, just as he encouraged all staff to be part of the medical exercise in order to know the preventive measures to take if need be.
Chief Nursing Officer of the Hospital, Mariam Akindele also noted that the idea is a good innovation from the MD and the management team. “A lot of us believe we are fine. We’re too busy attending to others while neglecting ourselves, thinking all is well with us. This checkup will expose us to so many things we aren’t aware of”.
Also, CNO Funmilayo Ajimotokan described the compulsory checkup as a timely intervention. “I appreciate the management because the majority of us are always available at the hospital but forget to take care of ourselves. This checkup will help us know the state of our well-being”.
Altogether, 353 staff presented themselves for the exercise and were attended to by over 25 senior and middle-level medical, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, and health information staff
