Now that Canada Day is over with for another year, there is time for reflection on what there actually is to celebrate each July 1. Many Canadians feel they are celebrating an amazing country, filled with inclusiveness and diversity. But when you see things through an Indigenous lens, you are reminded that Canada has been the exact opposite in its behaviour towards the original peoples of these lands. Although certain Indigenous individuals are put on pedestals for Canada Day celebrations, they do so in their personal capacities and do not speak for other Indigenous people and nations. Read More
