More on this storyline
Cleveland is expected to have interest in several candidates to join Atkinson’s staff, including Johnnie Bryant, Jared Dudley, Trevor Hendry, and others, league sources told HoopsHype. Dudley and Hendry were with Atkinson, Ott, Carroll, Jarrett Allen, and Caris LeVert in Brooklyn. Dudley could remain with the Mavericks, but the Cavaliers are expected to inquire about reuniting him with Atkinson. Hendry was the video coordinator on Atkinson’s staff for three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets before he was promoted to assistant coach after Atkinson moved on from Brooklyn. -via HoopsHype / July 6, 2024
Evan Sidery: Jarrett Allen is receiving strong trade interest from other teams, but Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson doesn’t want to move him, per @WindhorstESPN on @ESPNCleveland. Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen remains at the top of the candidate list. The Pelicans have shown interest in him for years, and keeping Darius Garland out of potential proposals should make it easier for both sides to find common ground. However, Cleveland may not be interested in giving Ingram the lucrative extension he’s seeking, according to league sources. -via New York Times / June 29, 2024
Amid the expected Hartenstein courtship, rival teams have expressed trade interest in Magic center Wendell Carter Jr., including the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told HoopsHype. The Pelicans are searching to add a center, with Jonas Valanciunas expected to depart in free agency, as previously reported on HoopsHype. -via HoopsHype / June 30, 2024
A couple months ago after a team practice, Magic guard Admiral Schofield approached Carter about a real estate play which would allow him to earn a piece of the revenue generation of a new medical-related facility in Portland. It’s an opportunity for Carter to join other NBA players who are considering the proposal. He’s planning on working alongside Schofield as both a teammate and business partner. This also goes for another fellow teammate in Magic guard Gary Harris, who is having ongoing conversations with Carter about investing in a marijuana dispensary chain based in Arizona. “That’s the name of the game right now,” Carter said. “Guys are more hands-on now. You hear the horror stories of back in the day of [players] giving all their financial decisions and access to someone else, which [led] to stories of people stealing money and things like that. That’s a part of it. Guys are not only more hands on but want to find more ways to make money.” -via Sportico / June 13, 2024
Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. will undergo surgery to stabilize the third metacarpal in his left non-shooting hand, the Sentinel learned Saturday. Carter originally suffered a fractured left hand Nov. 2 at Utah and underwent subsequent surgery that required him to miss 20 games (Nov. 4-Dec. 17). -via Orlando Sentinel / May 11, 2024
