Vista fire near Lytle Creek growing, but not rapidly

The Vista fire near Lytle Creek grew to 1,095 acres and was 0% contained on Tuesday, July 9, but the flames were moving at only a moderate pace through timber and were burning in a remote area of the San Bernardino National Forest.

No structures were reported threatened.

The fire could become more active, officials warned, because of expected continued hot and dry weather, along with wind gusts, throughout the week.

The fire is northeast of the Mt. Baldy resort. The resort is closed Mondays through Thursdays, so the fire was likely to have little effect there, although the resort was still threatened, incident commanders said in a morning update.

Crews on Tuesday were creating fire breaks with hand tools, bulldozers and aircraft to slow the flames that were moving uphill and put water on hotspots on the fire’s edges.

Lytle Creek Road remained open to residents only. Portions of the Pacific Crest Trail were closed from Lytle Creek to Mt. Baldy.

No injuries were reported.
