Lafayette councilman looking for solutions to Himbola Apartment complex issues
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- Numerous tenants at the Himbola Apartment complex in Lafayette are dissatisfied. They insist they are still grappling with non-functional appliances and utility issues.
In an interview with News 10, the city councilman for Himbola vows to take action. Residents, fearful of eviction, have gone undercover to speak up.
Images of the inside of Himbola in recent days are said to have been taken. Tenants reported rickety appliances, no gas for days and the A/C working less than it should.
Elroy Broussard said to have spoken with the property owners in Texas. They intend to do upgrades, but limited funds have their hands tied.
"Their intentions may be well, but we don't know their intentions are well until it's done," Broussard said.
Broussard said he's contacted different departments, from environmental health officials to law enforcement.
"We had almost 1000 police calls in the last year and a half. We had about 30 calls from the fire department. You know that's unheard of," Broussard said.
Broussard vows to meet with Himbola residents to discuss issues and solutions.
"We're going to have legal there to tell us what avenue we can explore," he said.
Broussard also said he's got a list of things some council members will try to do to help.
"We're going to make this happen because that's what they elected me to do, to ensure our quality of life is being appreciated and respected like everybody else," the councilman said.
