Senga Fans Three in Second Rehab Outing

0

New York Mets ace Kodai Senga is nearing a return to the big leagues after suffering a shoulder strain that has had him on the injured list the whole first half of the season. Prior to his rehab assignment in Syracuse, Senga struck out six in 2.2 innings for the High-A affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones.

Tonight, Senga returned to the mound for his second rehab stint and allowed no runs again in 2.2 innings while striking out three for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets. He needed just 30 pitches.

Across two rehab starts, Senga’s tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out nine. He needed just 65 pitches to get through his innings. After his start, he spoke to the media and said his arm feels “healthy” and has had no issues in his rehab stint with his arm or shoulder.

His forkball had excellent movement throughout, and he will continue to get back to his regular form before making his first start in the big leagues this season.

There has not been an announcement on what the next steps are for Senga, but with the All-Star break less than a week away, the team will be ecstatic to get their ace back for a second-half playoff push. The Mets will likely return to a six-man rotation once Senga is able to pitch in the big leagues again.

If Senga doesn’t pitch on Sunday on regular rest (highly unlikely), his next in-game action isn’t available until the July 19, the Friday following the All-Star Game. The Mets could have Senga ramp up in a simulated game over the break.

Stay tuned for more information about Senga’s rehab and when the Mets can expect him back. (Hint: he might be one of those coveted “like a trade deadline acquisition” roster additions around the end of July.)
