Samsung announced its new Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable phones on July 10, which the company claims are the most durable Galaxy Z series devices yet.
Samsung is using an "enhanced armor aluminum" on both phones for improved shock absorption and scratch resistance, and the display has improved the interior display's creasing area. However, the company still rates the devices for 200,000 folds, which is the standard for foldable phones and the same figure it claimed for the previous Galaxy Z generation.
Beyond durability, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 include expected performance upgrades, like running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, the most powerful processor available to Android phones.
The new Galaxy Z phones are available to preorder now and will become widely available to buy starting on July 24 from Samsung's website, Best Buy, Amazon, and nationwide carriers.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Features
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 carries over the larger 3.4-inch cover screen from the previous generation, one of the best upgrades to the Galaxy Z Flip series. Samsung is expanding on its usefulness by allowing cover screen widgets to be more customizable, with options to resize them so you can add more of them, which allows you to get more of the information you want by glancing at the cover screen rather than being forced to unfold the phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also uses Galaxy AI for Suggested Replies, which suggests message replies based on the last seven messages in a conversation. This feature should make replying to messages from the cover screen faster and easier than typing words on the full-size keyboard on the cover screen.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also features a larger battery and a new 50MP main camera. As expected, it runs on the most powerful processor available to Android phones so far, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Price and release date
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 costs $1,099.99 for the base 256GB model. It's $1,219.99 for the 512GB model.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is available to preorder now, starting July 10, from Amazon and Samsung's website. It will be released for general availability on July 24 on Samsung's website, Amazon, Best Buy, and nationwide carriers.
In signature fashion, Samsung has a few deals for those who preorder from its website. If you preorder the Galaxy Z Flip 6, you can get 12 months of Samsung Care Plus protection for free. The company will also credit you $1,000 for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with an eligible trade-in, and you'll get a model with twice the storage you want for no extra charge.
To note, three color options are exclusive to Samsung's website: White, Peach, and Crafted Black. Otherwise, the Blue, Silver Shadow, Yellow, and Mint colors are available everywhere else the phone is sold.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Features
The Galaxy Z Fold 6's biggest change is a cover screen that's 0.11 inches wider than the previous generation, which is a move in the right direction to make the cover screen more useful and usable, as cover screens on past Z Fold phones were narrow to the point of making the exterior display impractical.
Some new Galaxy AI features are also exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, including a Portrait Studio that generates an AI-based avatar of people in your photos. Live Translate is also expanding to third-party apps, so you're not stuck in Samsung's own messaging app to translate messages in different languages.
The Samsung Notes app can now translate a PDF into the language you want while maintaining its original format and included images and graphs. Previously, the Notes app would only convert text into a new note, leaving images from the original PDF behind.
Otherwise, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 includes the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy as the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the top processor among the best Android phones currently available.
