I-70 bridge labeled 'structurally deficient' struck again

COLYER, Kan. (KSNW) -- A bridge over Interstate 70 that previously has been labeled "structurally deficient" has been hit again by a passing vehicle.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says an over-height load struck 150th Avenue over I-70 in Trego County Tuesday evening. The impact caused debris to fall into the eastbound lanes of the highway.

KDOT says crews responded to clear the roadway. On March 1, KDOT closed the bridge to traffic due to the extent of the damage, which has been struck multiple times in the past.

The bridge's maximum height clearance is 14 feet 9 inches, but some trailers, like car haulers, can exceed that height. Interstate 70 is open to traffic.

It's not known if and when repairs will be made to the bridge.
